The Zona Hotelera (Hotel Zone) runs along the bay north of PVR airport — just 10-18 minutes away. This strip holds many of Puerto Vallarta's largest resorts. A private taxi delivers you door-to-door for $52 USD per vehicle, all costs included.

How far is the Hotel Zone from PVR airport?
The Zona Hotelera is the closest major resort area to PVR — roughly 5-10 km north of the terminal along the bay boulevard. Off-peak the drive takes 10-16 minutes. During busy arrival windows expect 15-22 minutes. Our driver is outside the terminal waiting when your flight lands.

Zona Hotelera vs. the Zona Romántica — are they the same place?
No — the Zona Hotelera and the Zona Romántica are two separate Puerto Vallarta neighborhoods, and mixing them up is one of the most common questions we get from first-time visitors booking a transfer. Both names include "zona," both show up constantly in hotel listings and Puerto Vallarta travel guides, and both sit along the same bay — but they are on opposite sides of the city, with different resorts, different transfer times from PVR, and a different feel once you arrive.
The Zona Hotelera is the resort strip covered on this page: the stretch of large beachfront hotels 5-10 km north of PVR airport, along the boulevard that runs parallel to the bay. It's the closest major hotel concentration to the airport — 10-18 minutes by private taxi — and home to properties like Hotel Krystal Vallarta, Hyatt Ziva, and Hard Rock Hotel Puerto Vallarta, all listed above.
The Zona Romántica (also called Old Town or the Romantic Zone) is a different part of the city entirely — the walkable, cobblestone neighborhood south of the Cuale River in downtown Puerto Vallarta, built around Los Muertos Beach and the southern end of the Malecón boardwalk. It is known for boutique guesthouses, restaurants, and nightlife rather than large resort towers, and it draws a different kind of traveler than the Zona Hotelera's beachfront hotel chains. Guests search for it under several names — Zona Romántica, Old Town Puerto Vallarta, or simply the "Romantic Zone" — but they all describe the same downtown neighborhood, well south of the hotel strip.
| Area | Location relative to PVR | Transfer time from PVR | Known for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zona Hotelera | 5-10 km north, along the bay | 10-18 min | Resort strip — Krystal Vallarta, Hyatt Ziva, Hard Rock |
| Zona Romántica | South of downtown, before Conchas Chinas | Between the Zona Hotelera's 10-18 min and Conchas Chinas's 25-35 min | Walkable Old Town streets, Los Muertos Beach, restaurants |
| Conchas Chinas | 22-28 km south, past the Zona Romántica | 25-35 min | Boutique hotels and hillside villas |
If your Puerto Vallarta hotel or vacation rental sits along the resort strip north of the airport — a large property with multiple pools, a private beach club, and a lobby built for big groups — you're almost certainly booked into the Zona Hotelera, and everything on this page (transfer time, hotel list, $52 USD rate) applies to you directly. If instead your reservation lists an address south of the Cuale River, near Los Muertos Beach or Olas Altas, you're in the Zona Romántica — a different part of town, reached by a longer transfer through downtown rather than the short boulevard run covered here.
There's no dedicated Zona Hotelera-style flat rate for the Zona Romántica on this page, because our pricing engine buckets fares by the exact zone boundary of your hotel or rental address — the same reason the Zona Hotelera and Marina Vallarta rates differ by only a couple of dollars despite sitting minutes apart. The route itself is the same corridor used for the Conchas Chinas and Mismaloya transfers: south on the boulevard, through downtown Puerto Vallarta, past the Zona Romántica itself. Request a quote with your exact Zona Romántica hotel or rental address and we'll confirm the private taxi fare and pickup details before you book — see the full price list linked below for every zone we cover.
Downtown Puerto Vallarta traffic factors into the Zona Romántica route the same way it affects transfers headed further south to Conchas Chinas — during peak arrival windows, downtown congestion can add 10-15 minutes on top of the base drive, the same allowance already built into the Conchas Chinas transfer times published on this site. If you want the shortest possible ride from PVR to a Zona Romántica address, an early-morning or late-evening flight avoids that congestion window; our flight-tracking system adjusts your pickup automatically either way, so a longer drive never means a longer wait at the terminal.
